Bianca Rheys, our heroine, is (at the beginning) a thirteen-year-old girl traveling to live with her British Aunt Alexis and her sister Hannah, to attend school. Having never left Egypt much before, she keeps it together by writing these letters to her best friend,
Selim, who is living in Cairo, along with,
Arthur Rheys & Alanna Baxter, Bianca's parents. Arthur is the head of the Beauregard Archaeological Society, and an archaeologist. Alanna was a model in England until she met the American Arthur, fell in love, and married him.
Alexis Baxter is also a model, Alanna's identical twin sister, and Bianca and Hannah's aunt.
Hannah Baxter-Rheys is Bianca's elder sister.
