fmith.
“Check you out, Felix Toombs.”
Felix jumped. If there was anything or anyone he didn’t expect to see in heaven or hell or wherever he went, it was definitely an 09er.
And not just any 09er – a Kane, for crying out loud.
“Sorry if Logan’s causing you trouble. He has that habit sometimes. But you know he didn’t do it, don’t you?”
“Same way your dad didn’t off you,” answered Felix noncommitally.
“Well duh, brilliant,” said Lilly, leaning one arm on his shoulder. Here, that nasty gash on her head from that box – the one she had as a body, and as a ghost – wasn’t there anymore, and she was beautiful, fabulous, awesome Lilly in the preternatural flesh.
And it was weird.
“How d’you take that? Wrong guy locked up and all?”
“Are you telling me, mister tough PCHer, that you’re worried about Logan Echolls?”
“… no.”
“Then it’s just your concept of moral justice, right? ‘Cause I couldn’t care less about Abel Koontz, either, but I know he didn’t kill me, and my daddy didn’t either.”
Lilly smiled, and Felix shuddered. Lilly Kane’s smile in the afterlife was even more sure.
“And since I couldn’t solve it myself, I got my best friend to do it. I knew I could count on the totally cool Veronica Mars.”
“Yeah, because your best friend’s Veronica Mars, Lilly. Veronica Mars is the kind of person who can do that shit. Weevil? Not so much. I can’t let count on him solving it. Especially without findin’ out about –“
“Molly?”
Felix turned to glare at Lilly, who smiled and replied, wistfully, “I never stopped watching you, Neptune High.”
“Did you say you got your best friend to do it?”
“You bet, Felix Toombs.” Lilly winked. “You’ve never really watched horror films either, have you? Doomed to walk the earth until your death is avenged, duh.”
The two exchanged knowing glances.
Two and and a half days later, Eli Navarro woke up sweating.
