Disclaimer: The setting is mine. Target belongs to itself (the store). Simon Tam and Melaka Fray are both creations of Joss Whedon's. Spoon is from the mind of Neil Marshall. Callista/Annie and Jesse are John Case's. I have no idea who made Avatar, so I can't speak for who Zuko really gets creativity homage for. Josh and Biff belong to Christopher Moore.

"Oh, no, Jesse, put that down --" Annie Baresi wasn't calling herself Annie Baresi anymore, really -- by then she'd gotten used to The Truth of her name, but had also gotten used to being called Annie. She'd answer to anything she'd ever called herself, but was most fond of Annie Bates, hence her son's surname.

Jesse Bates was offering a cigarette to Spoon, whose lap he was sitting on while the elected group were going through the storage cases behind Target. It was astonishing it'd taken them so long to think to look back there, but eventually Tris Williams had suggested it. Tris seemed to be an authority on what was around, and no one was surprised that everybody listened.

And Jesse listened to Annie, and put the box down, going after the next thing: a box with a logo very similar to that of the Hershey company.

"It's candy, all right," said Simon, offering one of the chocolate bars to Mel, who was in her first trimester with the next heir to the Fire Nation. Zuko, therefore, could not be persuaded to stay behind, and was sitting next to her. And Slayer-fu needs glucose, so Mel happily took the chocolate, splitting it in half and reluctantly sharing with the prince.

"Score!" exclaimed a voice from inside a box. Everyone turned to look at the massive container, which soon produced the head of Biff, who was holding what looked like coffee beans. Simon eyed it, and confirmed -- coffee.

"But we don't have a coffee maker," pointed out Josh, who seemed to be mentally scolding Jesse for playing with highly addictive items. (Spoon, on the other hand, was smoking it.)

"How do we not have a coffee maker?" demanded Annie. "Someone's got to have a coffee maker. How have we survived without --"

"Him," countered Mel, in between bites. "Boilin' water. Where'd ya think the tea came from?"

Zuko calmly lit Spoon's second cigarette with his finger. "Do you have filters in there? There's no other way to make coffee, let alone get Monk to drink it."

"Filters, filters, filters ..." Simon attacked another box (metaphorically) and came up with several boxes. "Flavored filters, even -- we've got chocolate, cherry, hazelnut, cinnamon, strawberry --"

Jesse gleamed. And grabbed at Simon's hand. At the same time, Biff snatched away the filters and handed them to Zuko. "Now, all we need's a pot!"

"Pot," said Spoon, handing one over. "This seems to be the barrier between 'food' and 'housewares.' Maybe there're blankets over there, or somethin', too."

"If we're going ta be climbing in boxes forever can we be a little less patterned?" Mel, who couldn't easily go back to the ways of the grabber with unborn babies in mind, was getting bored.

"Are you proposing we make a mess?" asked Annie.

"Then Monk would never forgive us," Zuko complained, while inspecting the pot.

At the end of the day, they had coffee. Cinnamon coffee, chocolate coffee, cherry coffee, hazelnut coffee, black coffee, coffee with milk, coffee with sugar, and, thanks to Josh, Irish coffee. On top of the coffee, they emerged with tons of Hershey's chocolates, pillowcases, a fluffy blanket, ten bathrobes and a new dog leash.

They stayed another day.

I very amused by this, mostly because I work at Target. I'm now wondering where the LODS have been hiding these mysterious storage cases...
